MS-DOS 5.0 came in April 1991, with DR DOS 6.0 being released the following June. These products are collectively referred to as 'DOS,' even though 'Disk Operating System' is a generic term used on other systems unrelated to the x86 and IBM PC. 'MS-DOS' can also be a generic reference to DOS on IBM PC compatible computers. MS-DOS 8.0 (2000, Windows Me) To add to the confusion (or fun), as well as the fake 'MS-DOS 7.1' collection, there are also IBM PC-DOS, and DR-DOS/Novell DOS/OpenDos 'seven dot something' versions. Very recently, (Jan 2012) FreeDOS 1.1 was released; this is completely open-source and free.

This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. I have acquired a large suite of dBase programs which I have no wish to rewrite. They work under a version of dBase which itself ran under DOS6.22, I believe, and are well tuned to the job I need to run.
I can load DOS 6.22 from an iso file exactly as described, and it works. I cannot, however, add sub-directories to either A: or R: and it looks though there is no write permission on either of these roots. Is this a problem of my making or simply that MSDOS6.22 does not work under Hyper V? Windows 10 Pro Insider build 14905 or 14910.
